@Lebeau541: As shown with Maul, the energy makes the Lightsaber bounce off. And as a Padawan, he didn't think properly at the time. His only thought was to get to Qui-Gon as fast as he possibly could and help him.
And besides that, it's not easy cutting through a wall with a Lightsaber. They may slice through almost anything, but for a Padawan, it wouldn't be easy and it would take too long.
