WKNO Producer Pierre Kimsey talks with singer Clay Aiken. The North Carolina native was beginning a career as an educator working with special-needs children when he took an opportunity to audition for the TV show American Idol, then in its second season. His life was transformed as a finalist, and he has emerged as one of the most successful singers to have been launched by the show. Aiken has used his celebrity on behalf of the international charity UNICEF and has traveled to Somalia, Afganistan and other countries where children have been impacted by war. In this half-hour conversation, Aiken talks with Kimsey about performing, sudden fame, family, UNICEF and more.

  • Thanks for an excellent interview!! Mr. Kimsey brings out Clay's charm, humor, smarts, and heart, eliciting his feelings on everything from his own foundation to his UNICEF trips, from AI to touring to Broadway, from his son and mom and teachers to his fans. We also get clips (too brief!) of Clay's stage presence and singing voice. I've seen a lot of interviews, but nothing touches this one.

  • I loved this interview...I learned alot more about Clay and I loved how Mr. Kimsey would ask a question and wait and allowed Clay time to answer...

I hope he comes back to his singing and tours again soon..

But love that he wants to take time off to be with his son...

  • Very informative interview; learned a great deal about Clay's UNICEF trips, especially more of his experiences in Africa. Congratulations to Mr. Kimsey for his thorough preparation in highlighting Clay's life! Marveled at the length and coverage of this interview that left me with a warm feeling about Clay Aiken. Thank you WKNO.

  • What a wonderful interview! I could listen to Clay talk all day!

  • Fantastic interview! Thank you so much.

I love how Mr. Kimsey would ask him a question and let Clay expound on it.
