This lecture, titled "The History of Heart Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory Support: A Revolution in Evolution," by James K. Kirklin, MD, Professor and Director, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, University of Alabama at Birmingham, was the 32nd Annual Reynolds Lecture, held on February 18, 2011. The objective of the Reynolds Historical Lecture Series is to review, assess, and discuss various historical aspects of the health care sciences. Lectures are hosted by the Reynolds Associates and the Historical Collections of Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences, University of Alabama at Birmingham.
