Steve Cram shows good form as he builds toward an attempted 800/1500 double at the 1986 Commonwealth Games. This race in Nice, France was to be a tough test against a crack field that included Earl Jones and David Mack of the US, and Peter Elliott of GB.
@martynhanson He got injured pre-Stuttgard. Or Coe would have been in serious trouble in trying to win his first 'major' 800m. I agree that he was never better than at the 1986 Commonwealth. His 800m was effortless. I wonder what he would have ran had he 'gone for it' that day?

In my mind Cram peaked at the Commonwealths and it was probably his best champs in his career. However, it was clear in Stuttgart that he was kind of flat and had lost the incredible zip he had in Edinburgh but, of course, he was still good.

Basically all modern white euro-based middle distance guys are simply crap.

@jon62punk True. I love all this bull about needing to be an african....and yet Cram/Coe/Ovetts times from the 80s are still medal class at every championship.
