i don't get why everyone is laughing at everything. i feel people who like him think of him more as a comedian rather than a poet. its sort of like hipster jerry seinfeld observations-gmail, twitter, AOL, end etc. it's a shame though, i mean, i don't like him that much, but i think most of his fans don't actually like his poetry, but rather this persona he's taken on. i feel when he says something serious it's overlooked because people just want him to say something silly rather than real.

They're laughing because they're protecting themselves.

This is the problem with these writers and poets: they're all too comedic. True masterpieces have never been purely ironic or comedic. David Foster Wallace had talked about how post modernism has been corrupted by irony. I enjoy Tao Lin as entertainment, not as art.

You said it man-- he's a gimmick. His "gift" is for self promotion, not poetry. But don't fret-- gimmicks never last, but art and poetry do.

People are 'dancing' on butter as means of 'art'. Art is dead.

I feel the same way. Once you get over the wacky nature of some of the characters, I feel there is an underlying sense of humanity in all of them that is too soon overlooked due to the species of the character. But I never felt like that. I always took his stuff seriously, because I know he does too.

I really don't think he's a "poet" though. I think he's a gimmick...Mostly just bullshit. When I said it's a shame, I mainly mean because he's become the new "face" of poetry for the newer generations, and that's just depressing. I mean, depressing for poetry as an art. He's turned it into a joke. Not just because he tries to be funny, but because his poetry is awful.
