The on-going debate in the scientific community as to whether chronic fatigue syndrome is caused by a virus infection provides an interesting example for those following the alien abduction controversy.

In science, authority is trusted to the extent warranted by the data. Investigators are allowed free reign to hypothesize, but are also expected to corroborate their ideas.

Carol, thanks for watching and commenting.

I also think we will understand the mystery of the abduction phenomenon. It is hard to study, but is it any less so than the Black Death (plague) caused by invisible microbes that seemed to appear from nowhere, rage without control and suddenly just vanish? Then came microscopes and scientists like Robert Koch and Louis Pasteur who seized the power of new technology and techniques to provide undreamed of knowledge. Answers will come.

  • Tyler, The capsule history of scientific controversy was both helpful and entertaining. We forget how fierce the debates once were over rocks that fall from the sky and who to blame for the mysterious disease that was sweeping across the land. But over time, we humans did manage to figure out the answers to so many questions. I'm even hopeful enough to believe we might someday come to understand what paranormal experiences are all about. But not w/head in sand. Thanks! Carol

    Thanks, Rob!

The article on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is on the Nature website. It can be found by Google searching the title "Virology: Fighting for a Cause." Persons searching for answers regarding abduction experiences may find the parallels striking.

  • Another good one Tyler — Rob
