I apologize in advance for seeing how the video is lagging; I don't know why that happened. Download Reach.exe from http://www.mediafire.com/mrvariantsreviews

These are fun games I evented myself. Double Edge has you roll dice to get double the stakes if you roll a double, or quadruple if both you and the dealer get doubles.

Dragon Knight is like Dragon Quest's Pachisi. I used show choice to make this move better. It plays as a typical save the princess game but I thought it was fun. I gotta edit a couple things: like getting your party back when it ends but the game itself works well.

Using a casino with this idea really helps too, letting equipment be something cherished rather than disposable like in many rpgs. I didn't show in the vid but the prizes won can be a chaos blade or mithril to make mithril knuckles. If someone could help me animate dice, that'd be great. I might add text stating how much you win with double edge, as well as the prize for Dragon Knight. I personally liked being able to steal that box cutter from the dragon. I think it's Avery's personal dungeon.

Here's a guide I made to making a good rpg: http://www.scribd.com/doc/63069628/How-to-Make-a-Good-RPG

  • To be honest, I couldn't figure out how to rescue the princess in that Dragon minigame. I defeated the Dragon first, but I couldn't get the princess out.

  • @RocMegamanX thanks for your feedback. All you have to do is defeat the dragon and get in range to touch the princess. The game takes some luck into effect (crappy dice rolls or losing to those lame bats by being poisoned) so you may get your scenario where you beat the dragon but lose anyway.

  • @MrVariant It's just that I defeated the dragon and was able to make it back to the princess, but she still tells me I have to defeat the dragon first...

    Is this a glitch?

  • @RocMegamanX lol I don't know how you find glitches in my game that no one else ever finds (like that reflect thing with that mimic battle in Quickstrike: Academy Style or this thing). I've tested numerous times and never had a problem. I'll ask this question: when you beat the dragon, a gate blocking the princess should disappear. You mentioned that somehow that you couldn't get the princess out. Does this gate disappear in your game? I'll chat with you over im if you log on to google talk.

  • @RocMegamanX possibly. I tested it on a playthrough where I already completed it once; you see it before with this video that it works the way I planned it out, but apparently that gate doesn't leave. Oh I'll also send you and put a link to an e-book I made on how to make a good rpg.

  • @RocMegamanX ok found it. Basically what happened was that after I made this video I set an event to reset things but it stopped that gate from disappearing, making the princess tell you to defeat the dragon. Download my game again but transfer your save over to the folder with the new version and everything should be fixed. I just tested it myself and it works perfectly. Hope you enjoy my game. Well thanks for mentioning.

  • @captainsunder009 oh that's not a problem. I pmed you about that. In that case you may have to copy your actors and give them class changes (with different stat growths) and make a condition based on their renown/fame that'll change the class into whatever you desire. I'm pretty good at eventing so if there's any questions you have, I can try to help. I just can't script and it seems too complicated for me.

  • @MrVariant Well, how I want it to work isn't ho people talk to you but rather what class in future you can become. It is sorta weird but when you see it you will like it.

  • @captainsunder009 yeah, basically use variables as you do sidequests or something. Like let's say you create a variable called fame and have it go up when you make certain choices or complete optional sidequests. It can go down when you make bad choices or fail these sidequests. Basically, you'll probably change the dialogue of characters with events based on how high your fame variable is. It's not very hard at all; not like when I made Dragon Knight with common events. Hope I helped.

  • @MrVariant I have developed a really good rank system. I am also thinking of making a renown board that particular actions influence it. Do you know how I should go about eventing this?
