Anyone (in 10 mins) can create their own $30 very strong bicycle trailer out of an ordinary hand truck as a bike trailer. Bruce Thomson in New Zealand explains in a slide show demo of many he's made & used in the past decade. Also gives some 'surprise tips' on safety attaching and carrying loads. These trailers take almost no space to store. Note: With years of hard work, the wheel bearings can fail, keep an eye on them for wobbly wheels, replace the wheels if that happens. With huge weights, the tubeless wheels shear their bolts going over a big, sharp pothole, so don't put more than about 250kg while towing. Walking it is safer.
P.S. See other vids:''No need for bicycle trailer - vertical load the carrier' and "Double glaze doityourself for 1500 dollars".

  • great vid, have been looking at getting a bike trailer to put my fishing tackle on, most of the lakes around here are only 30 min`s by bike, i was a little worried about the weight on one of these shop bought one`s but I'm glad Ive seen your vid. hard ware shop for me tomorrow. :)

  • @bigkips Hi - thanks for the comments. If you create a trailer, maybe upload a video response so others can see your version of it. If you do, mention where you are, I wondered if it was Canada - I lived in Montreal ten years and Toronto East on Lake Ontario five. The extra-long trailer was bought in Toronto, I used to salvage and cart home all kinds of rubbish-day and other renovating treasures. Kind regards, Bruce Thomson in New Zealand.

  • Hi Bruce, I have been looking for CHEAP bike traiker '4eva' any way My son happened to have oneof those carts ( not any more ) and I ended up with a Mobility scooter (CHEAP As). Well I happen to have 2 Mokos (GrandKids). On Beautiful day along Petone Beach you might see us Cruzin along. I was able to convert thier stroller safley to the cart so they can lie down, CHEERS YOU !!!!!

P.s I was looking at his golf cart .......NO No No

  • @v8kiwi Hi Nana, interesting comment. I'd looked at strollers and golf carts. Some of them are really good strong construction and look very smart too. I'm in Palmy, two hours away from Wellington, but if I'm ever on Petone beach and see your rig there, I'll say hi. Regards, Bruce.

  • ive got 2 trailers that i carry heavy loads with, i made a slideshow of them the other day, will have to get a video of me using them now that i have the camera back

  • It's fun to make stuff DIY. However, it's very worthwhile to get a solid, well designed trailer that can carry more weight, is easier to load and detach, lighter, no 'safety' concerns. Especially if you need to use it everyday. We really undervalue bicycles but if you think about it $2K on a good trailer that replaces a car is a bargain especially when you factor in no insurance, no gas, much cheaper maintenance. I make some bicyclefamily . ca. Also good design at tonystrailers . com

  • Cheers Bruce, thanks for a great video. I'm in the design stage and your video brought me up short. I planned to have a large plastic container on a horizontal chassis & central axle, with the usual up-and-over connection to the seat post, mainly for collecting firewood and doing the supermarket run. Now I'm wondering about a similar arrangement to yours using an old ladder, but it'll be hard to keep the c of g over the axle unless it's a short span. + other issues. I'll video it when I'm done.

  • Not exactly what I was looking for, but I wanted to say your vision was very informative and done very well.

  • you are a genius.

  • very helpful thank you

  • チェク ・私の ebike2011 を構築するは非常に安価に !
