Allegretto; Allegretto; Allegro ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Italian pianist and composer Muzio Clementi (1752-1832) is best known today for his 'Gradus ad Parnassum' collection of piano studies, and for his sonatinas. Of course, most pianists learn them as students and then put them away, as I did myself. But I had a look at them again recently, and realised what wonderful perfect miniatures of classical style they are, and what fun they are to play. And all three movements will fit well into a YouTube video! The middle movement of this work does present a slight problem of how strongly to dot the quavers. I have been inclined in this context to treat the groupings almost as tied triplets, to avoid the piece sounding laboured at this tempo, but I'm sure others may disagree!

  • what book did you use for this? I have the alfredo book and my teacher said that the second movement's name is a typo. I'm not sure if this right. I kept telling her I found many like this video that have Allegretto.

  • @MarchingBandGeek96 Thank you. I used a British edition published in the 1960s. I can't lay my hands on it now, but the title I used for my video definitely came from it. You could check with whatever edition is on IMSLP (which you can download for free).

  • I'm doing this for a sonatina competition soon. I wish mine sounded so good. (:

  • @runnergirl628 If you work hard it will sound better - my performance is not perfect. I wish you every success in the competition!

  • Awesome! Helped me a lot. You play it well.

  • @11insertusernamehere Thank you very much - and good luck with your own study of the piece!
