Department S was a British espionage/science fiction adventure series produced by ITC Entertainment. The series lasted for 28 episodes, which aired in 1969-70. The series starred Peter Wyngarde as Jason King (who later went on to star in his own, eponymous, spin-off series), Joel Fabiani as Stewart Sullivan and Rosemary Nicols as Annabelle Hurst. The trio were agents for a fictional special department (the 'S' of the title) of Interpol. The head of Department S was Sir Curtis Seretse (played by Dennis Alaba Peters).
The series was created by Dennis Spooner and Monty Berman, although neither wrote any of the episodes, which were instead written by ITC veterans such as Terry Nation and Philip Broadley. Many of the directors on the show had also worked on a number of ITC shows -- The Saint, Danger Man, The Protectors and Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased). Like many of the ITC shows, Department S has gained cult status.Jason King was a UK television series produced from 1971 to 1972. Each episode was one hour in duration, and the series had a run of one series of 26 episodes. It was broadcast in the UK and was also screened in Australia and Norway. Translated also to other languages, like Spanish, it aired in countries such as Peru. It was made in the UK by Lew Grade's production company, ITC.
Jason King featured the further adventures of the eponymous character who had first appeared in Department S (1969). In that series he was a dilettante dandy working as part of a team of investigators. In Jason King he had left that service and was concentrating on writing adventure novels following the adventures of the fictional Mark Caine, who closely resembled Jason King in looks, manner, style, and personality. None of the other regular characters from Department S appeared in this series.

  • Class tune! Very funky.

  • @MsMrReason Brace yourself for a shock. I knew your dad and he did dress like Jason King, we all did, and we were all great and we all drove Capri Ghia's. Your Dad was an amazing dancer too.

  • @kaferere I am watching this right now on DVD and he is the only one that dresses like Jason King . At present he is wearing a woman's scarf and earlier on he seemed to be wearing Dot Cotton's coat and hair.

If you dressed like that good for you , but I am sure my dad did not and he was younger than King at the time.

  • @Ganbareg he was gay...? That explains the look then. Not unlike my gay uncle. Now there's a name for a band 'Gay Uncle"

  • Jason King was NOT gay! Peter Wyngarde was though. We all dressed like him ADMIT IT!

  • Great tune and voice mix:)

  • Cool series. Both of them. Even though in neither of them did I think he was straight (even with an underdeveloped gaydar at that time).

His lifestyle had some difficulties. To say the least. Still cool series.

  • Well HEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
