This is a video of the burning of a small farm house that we owned in Madison County in the western part of North Carolina. We donated the house to the local fire department to burn down for practice. The house was 75 years old at the time and in very bad condition. It has been built by poor farmers who didn't have to worry about building codes or inspectors. The house looked pretty good from a distance but every part of the house needed to be rebuilt. The uphill end of the house sat directly on the dirt and was badly damaged by termites. The downhill end sat on dry stacked piles of stones. The roof had multiple layers of asphalt shingles covered by a layer of tin. Every board in the fascia, soffit and siding was rotten on the ends. To make a long story short the house needed just about everything replaced from top to bottom.

To qualify for a charitable tax deduction we had to have the house appraised and we had to get a letter from the fire department stating how much the house was worth to them as a training exercise. We were able to deduct the lesser of the two amounts as a charitable deduction on our income taxes. If you would like to have one of your buildings burned down I suggest that you talk to your accountant or tax attorney first.

  • That would have made a needy family a nice home to live in, No matter how much needed to be done to it. I've seen worse... But anyway, Looks close enough to a bonfire get-together wheres the hotdogs I got the buns!!!

  • @timmytimmy64: We had a needy family living in this house for almost four years. They almost never paid their (very small) rent but we did not kick them out. They repaid our generosity by completely trashing the house and leaving 15 cubic yards of trash behind....You could cook a hot dog 100 feet away from that fire.

  • hmm I thought diesel fuel was too thick/oily to be ignited with an open flame. How did they light the straw bales? Great video

  • @generfeld Diesel fuel will ignite readily with an open flame but not with a spark.

  • old houses should not be burned but preserved i am a vol fire fighter to

  • @vfdunit1 You never saw this house up close or saw the inside.

  • @generfeld Fire dept missed the point here. While it,s fun to burn something down, the building could have been used several times for interior training.Burn it down at the end of the day.

  • @Mr7Firedog I was going to say the same thing . By looking at this video it looks like they never went inside and did any interior firefighting . What a waste of time and resources

  • @fireNYbuff New York union puke,

  • @Gaho2Many nope, the house was even built by mice

  • @vfdunit1 commie

  • wonder if people had been in there...

  • Wow that's SCARY how hot it was from that far away! O.O

  • @vfdunit1 Unfortunately some old house can not be preserved if they have a large infestation of bugs or rodents that carry diseases. It's much better to burn them down.
