A demonstration of tweaking a simple, but finicky, homopolar vibration motor. This art piece enables a wireform bee to buzz and rotate with a wireform flower.

The motor is simply a neodymium magnet, AA battery and a spiral coil of copper wire.

I used 20 gauge copper wire from the Home Depot plumbing dept to form the coil, because it is springier than electrical wire.

If you try this, please be aware that the spring wire can heat up if the energy doesn't go into bouncing or rotating...oweee on the fingers then if you pick up by the top of the wire!

For Homopolar Motor Kits, with 3 magnets and 6 feet of copper wire, order from the good folks at the American Stirling Engine website: http://www.stirlingengine.com/ecommerce/product.tcl?usca_p=t&product_id=93

Order from the best selection of neodymium super-magnets at:

  • very artistic, i like this alot. kinda sounds like a diesel powered bee hahaa!

  • You mean like a diesel pulling a bee-train? (haha)

  • How long will this continue to spin for?.. im just starting to experiment with neodymium magnets and your videos are very interesting!

  • It will spin for about 5 minutes on a charge. I use a good Duracell 2650 mah NiMH rechargeable battery. Some of my creations only go a minute or so, and some up to 20 minutes.

I heartily recommend you try things to learn the limits of magnets, wire and battery ideas. Just watch out for burning your fingers on hot parts and don't play with two or more magnets without eye protection! (hehe, I'm not a safety freak, it's just the voice of experience here!)

  • I know how pointless this question is,

But is that the same can of chili used in the mexican dancing spring motor?

    (I'm just really curious)

  • Thank-you for paying attention! I re-cycle everything...

  • beautiful!

  • You should keep the flower stationary and let the bee buzz around it.

  • Free Energy is real and its here! The Oil companies are doing everything in their power to stop these information. If you want a Free energy machine do a search in youtube for the LT MAGNET MOTOR , Join the revolution!

  • if bees ran on diesel, instead of being a living organism, im pretty sure this is what they would sound like hahaa!

  • Hey thanks greatly appreciated.. ill take you up on your tips.. :)
