This is our Giant Spiny Stick Insect (Eurycantha Calcarata) He's adult and fully grown at about 11cm.

This one lives on a diet of Ivy and Blackbery. Note the thorn like leg spikes on his hind legs. These are the reason I am holding him in this fashion. They HURT when he uses them and he does like to use them.

His feet are also sharp and can be painful too. They are capable of holding him onto the glass walls of his vivarium.

Giant Spinys are native to Papua New Guinea, they are greenish when young but turn to this rich chestnut brown as they mature. Females lack the leg spikes of the male and grow lager, up to 15cm and up to around 20g.
