Modern Roundabout time lapse with Miss Kittin - Fools Gold.

Modern roundabouts, when compared to traffic lights and stop signs, have less delays, higher capacity, safer for cars and pedestrians(up to 90-100% reduction in fatal accidents), no Vegas style lighting from traffic lights all over the place, allows for a much smoother traffic flow where stopping rarely happens because it eliminates the hurry up and wait system (traffic lights promote aggressive driving), much more beautiful to look at, and allow for narrower roads to hold higher volumes of traffic because the intersections are now much more efficient.

  • P.S this song is actually Love is Stronger Than Pride by Michael Mayer

  • I'm not sure why you said "P.S" post script to what? Anyway, thanks for the tip on the original. The Miss Kittin version is certainly extremely close. Regardless of how close they are, the version I'm playing is actually Miss Kittin - Fools Gold.

  • It seems to be effective. I saw those in Spain when I was there in the summer. However for the cities in the US to incorporate this is impossible. (maybe countryside). I am from NYC and space is minimal especially in Manhattan. These just take up to much space. (There are a couple of these in small towns)

  • @timosha21 It would be great if you actually provided something useful. Do you have any proof that in America this would only work in the countryside but in the rest of the world it can magically work anywhere? Do you at all realize that American roads and intersections are on average much larger than in Europe?? Of course it can work here. With regard to Manhattan, forget about Roundabouts there, because cars don't work in Manhattan. Cars only work with less density.

  • Space is minimal still in a lot of US cities. (However I don't disagree with you. It could be placed in outskirt areas or in residential areas. Downtown is impossible for lack of space)

  • @timosha21 Yes, but again, space is minimal in Europe even more so, so what's your point? Traffic lights are not an ideal method for good traffic flow and giving fair use to pedestrians and cyclists, roundabouts are. That being said, in downtown areas (some can fit them, some can't, some can at least fit mini-roundabouts) cars should probably be abandoned all together and if that's the case a simple cross intersection will work because pedestrians don't need traffic lights.

  • Pleased to see that roundabouts are starting to cross the Atlantic!

  • @timosha21 Mini roundabouts my friend, they're awesome.

  • That's great to hear! A roundabout is certainly a lot more human than a robot telling us when it's safe to cross the street. I always compare traffic lights with the government holding my hand to cross the street. It's like.. thanks but, I'm 26 years old, aren't I too old for this?

  • Yes traffic flows smoothly.. very little wait to get into it.. I don't know why Americans are balking at them. We got our first one in the Eau Claire, WI area about 2 yrs ago.. now we have about 10 of them around town.
