Strangely when I press W to lean forward the helicopter rocks up and down - does this mean I have auto-hover on?

exactly, auto-hover means no fast forwarding but you can adjust your position slightly, if you press "too hard" it tries to correct instantly

Paxton, just set yourself like you would as infantry, but change from man unit type to air unit type.

I noticed that too, seems to be a bug of the current Alpha version, did you post it to the ingame feedback tracker? I can't get to lock on targets in some cases on other difficulties too, seems to bug out for me from time to time too...

if i play on elite i cant lock on targets... why?
