My first O gauge train. This is a little different for me, I'm on the other side of the camera and am a little uncomfortable with it. For those who do not know me, I'm Steve Eastman, born and still live in So. Cal. This November Diane & I will have been married 38 years, 3 children, 6 grand kids.
The set I will show was my brother in laws as a child, but had been in the in laws rafters for many years. We took it out when my first two grand sons developed a love of trains. The set was pretty complete except the set box and the small load boxes which I later added to complete it. It still runs and smokes nicely.

  • I have the same 666, one of my favorite marx trains

  • @NscaleRR

The Marx 666 is a very under rated older loco. It is a good runner, smokes great, decent pulling power, very simple to maintain and very reliable. I have just never liked the pilot. Looks like a battering ram.

  • nice video, brought me memories of my cousin who in 1958, got a new Marx set exactly like your composition from Sears Pasadena for $17.88. It looks well made. It reinforced me into Marx plastic. Thanks Steve.

    Robert.

  • Thanks Robert. This set is special and I hang on to it and have a few more like it, but generally prefer tin. Not near as much plastic in my collection compared to tin.

  • Steve:

Both the trains and you appear to be in great shape (still)! Cool video. My first set was a Lionel Scout set in 1952. My older brother had a layout of "upper class" Lionel in our cellar.

    Pete

  • Thanks Pete

I have a boxed Scout set. Being as I love the low end stuff, a Scout was a natural fit even if it is Lionel:) It made an appearance in one of my video's a month or two ago. Typical Scout loco, the reverse lever vibrates out of position and it stops. I looped a rubber band from the lever to the headlight and that works, just need to get a black rubber band so it does not stand out so much. The cars are in great shape.

  • I love your videos; by the way I have that same empty bottle of smoke fluid.

  • thanks for the documentary on your first train. Mine was american flyer , then a marx windup. then into ho. my hands couldnt handle that at all. so a break from trains other than train chasing in glendora ca. untill i moved up here . i now have a 3 x 4 foot layout in my small apartment.

Diane has been pretty tolerent of this insanity, I think that would be pushing it a bit:)

    Steve

  • Steve, Why not build another layout in the dining room? Seems like a great idea to me. This video has been approved by Train Night at Dave's.
