Some highlights of the 1971 final game and season from Ralph Kiner and Lindsey Nelson. Ken Singleton hits 2 HRs in what became his final game as a Met and Tom Seaver wins his 20th game with a 1.76 ERA, and Lindsey Nelson says it was a "frustrating year" for Nolan Ryan.

  • I think it is amazing that 1, you taped the game and 2) you kept it all these years, long enough so that it could live forever on YouTube. Fellow Met fantatics around the world bless you!

  • @Haroldbeavis1969 I have some '73 audios as well. Search youtube for "1973 Mets World Series intros and first inning" and "1973 Mets interviews - Willie Mays, Rusty Staub, Cleon Jones, Tug McGraw" for 2 other ones. Thanks for listening, glad you liked it!

  • @samspinchat Glad I liked it? You've just become my new idol!

  • @Haroldbeavis1969 I uploaded some more audios, this time from 1973. Check my channel for "1973 Mets win pennant" which is the 9th inning of game 5 vs. the Reds, and also "1973 Mets - Kiner's Korner - Mets win NL pennant" which is audio of Kiner's Korner after the game.

  • I remember watching this game as a 7 year old.It was a rather meaningless end of season game, yet the large Fan Appreciation Day crowd and the excitement of the announcers made me think the Mets were advancing to the post season.I recall feeling very disappointed when it was explained to me that they weren't.Big night for Ken Singleton in his last game as a Met before being dealt to the Expos in the Rusty Staub trade. Thanks for the memory.

  • @nycgrneys Thanks for listening. I was a huge Ken Singleton fan before he got traded and was happy to hear him hit 2 HRs his last game.

  • the METS INTGHE 70S WERE THE DUMBEST ORGANIZATOIN IN BASEBALL BAR NONE. COMING OFF 69 MY DAD TOLD ME THEY SHOULD HAVE WON AT LEAST FOUR WORLD SERIES. A YOUNG SINGLETON FROM MOUNT VERNON HOMETOWN KID , AND THEY TRADE HIM SEAVER ,RYAN, KOOSMAN THEY REFUSED TO GET SOME HITTING IN THE 70'S . HARRELSON HAD A GOOD GLOVE , BUT HE WAS A AUTOMATIC OUT ( 223 FROM 70 - 79 ) . WHILE THE PIRATE'S RED'S , SF. GIANTS ,LA DODGER'S BRAVE'S HAD BETTER LINE -UPS . SEAVER HATED THEM G.M.

  • I miss those days as a kid growing up to the Mets on WOR 9 and on the radio on WHN 1050...... Jane Jarvis. Bob Lindsay and Ralph, the old Several Zippers sign out in leftfield and Kiners Korner

  • @samspinchat Awesome! Sounds like we are kindred spirits. If you love chatting about baseball and the Mets, might I suggest joining us in pro sports daily dot com? There are chat forums for every sport, every team. You can join me and other kindred spirits in Mets forum!

  • I love the Mets announcers from the 70's.

  • This clip is such a treasure on so many levels. First and foremost, as A8avexp astutely pointed out, it was the last game managed by Hodges and the last games at Mets for Ryan and Singleton, and the retirement of Aspro. A8 also made a great pont about Seaver going on three days rest. Two years later in the WS he wouldn't do so well on short rest. I also loved Lindsey's wrap up at the end of game/season. So much fun to listen to.

  • @a8avexp A little trivia - Bob Aspromonte was the last Brooklyn Dodger to retire.
