  • @JohnLennon100 That's a good point. Belatedly, then. It's a device for allowing the raising and lowering of a platen in two degrees of freedom: vertically, to allow for changing book thickness as pages are turned, and rotating up/down, to allow for page turns. It is a component of a DIY book scanner -- see diy book scanner . org
