Kayla is 12 years old. She was a very active dog taking long walks and daily runs before she tore her ligament playing catch with another dog and racing for the ball. We took her to a vet and he strongly recommended cruciate ligament surgery. The surgery was not successful and she was worse off than ever then her other leg was also affected by the lack of exercise. The vet wanted to keep doing more work but we declined. We didn't want to put her down as she was still a very happy dog. We got her the Walkin Wheels Dog wheelchair and she now goes for long walks and does what she loves to do best.....walking the neighborhood and sniffing all around. I would not recommend this type of surgery for an older dog and after everything Kayla and we went through I believe the surgery was unnecessary and inappropriate. Do not trust that the "vet knows best" for its clients. We should of bought the wheelchair in the beginning and saved so much grief for the dog and ourselves.
