Great video. Those were the days when hang glider pilots were super heros.Well that was what I thaught because I was one of them.Way too many dead pilots at the time,I guess that's the price pioneers pay.Today it is so much safer,Though because it's not so new and taken for grated, less people are taking it up.They don't know what they are missing out on.

OMG! I taught myself to hang glide at Mt. Trashmore in 1973 and also flew at Warren Dunes at lot but never towed. Thanks for the memories!!!

thanks so much for posting this. So cool and so scary. I wanted to learn at about this time and my mother wouldn't let me. Thank god she didn't! I ended up learning in the early 80s on a Mars. Much friendlier!

I never gained a lot of altitude, but I'm pleased that I had a chance to try it in the 70s. Unregulated and inexpensive, but I only took one lesson, and now that I look back, advice and tips came from pilots who weren't good teachers. I slowly figured that the successful pilots got airtime by 1) waiting around for days for favorable northwesterlies or 2) traveling for days to get to launch locations near thermals, or both. Inconsistent with collecting a paycheck or having a love life.
