Funny how smelt are consider ok to eat, but creek chubs are consider bait fish...

@foamtruck You can eat the smelt whole. Just lightly batter them in a ziploc bag and deep fry them until crunchy. The bones are soft and the roes taste good. Really a waste of time to clean it

thanks for the cleaning tip at the end. That's way simpler than snipping head and slitting belly then toothbrush down the cavity. Do you have any trouble with mudline (kidney) remaining in them?
