The Fast Show Crashes, Carnage on the slippery surface at Santa pod. Sorry about the missing bit I was too busy watching John instead of watching what I was filming.

  • Interesting video. I wasn't at Santa Pod for this, but two questions for the Skyline driver:

    1) Why were the wheelie bars set so high?

    2) Why weren't the parachutes out? You tried to hold on to that for so long it was a joke! Pull the chutes, admit defeat, and the car survives to race again.

Looks like inexperienced driving & setup to me.

  • Hi tog1957,

Do you drive a drag car??

  • Nope, but I used to crew for a Pro Stock team. Not really into Jap cars, but the principals are the same for any doorslammer. If this guy had pulled the chutes, the chances are the car would have straightened right out. Even if it didn't it would have slowed it down.

  • It's easier said than done when fighting with a car at 150mph, that's when three hands would come in useful.

  • The Track crew do nothing but good work on that track, if anything it would of been down to chavs in saxo's leaving mud on the track after doing endless pointless donuts in the field, to me it looks like john was only half in the groove, only bad things can happen...

  • What do you think caused the first one (RX7)??

  • That old saying - you play with feathers you get your arse tickled.

  • Tog - is that you !!

    1. Wheelie bar heights were tested

    2. Have you soon the other video ? - no parachute thanks to 3g + sideways G - no shute wold have straightened that up. 70 mph + taken off speed & car does live to fight another day !

  • i was there, i thought he done so well to try and control that skyline, at one point i really thought he had it, very unlucky and such a shame!

  • im not labelling anybody, i love rywb action, but as you said, its those few idiots that hae to spoil it for everybody, i have spoken to John, nothing strange happened, the rear tyres just lit up at 5.0secs into the run, and the fishtailing got out of control, as for the rx7, im not too sure, possibly the same thing, its most certainly not down to a lack of track prep..

  • please dont label all rwyb the we all have to start somewere it boils down to same old thing there will always be same mindless few that spoil it for the rest but i do agree anybody deliberetly chewin up the fields or draging mud into pits is thrown of site as causes accidents and destroys camping fields for the real fans
