  • FYI all blood is screened, HIV screening started 1986. By their admission in very rare circumstances somethings can pass undetected by limiting those who potentially carry HIV from donating reduces risk. Had a test saying you are clean great but it is only valid at that time they can't go oh ok you've not had sex with anyone else or caught between then and now. By taking the test you have admitted you believe yourself you are at some risk, would you want blood based on somebody being honest?

  • @tobler88 Umm, still, I am no whore, I sleep with a clean partner - I KNOW he is clean, I am clean, why can't I give blood? All blood donated MUST be screened.

I respect taking high risk groups out saves money but if I can prove I am clean, why can I still not?

  • @orla1234567891011 Sigh... that's simply wrong. In the US 63% of men with HIV caught it through M2M sex in 2008, where as only 12% were hetrosexuals. If I had UK stats I would give them but imagine they are not too different. I really dislike outlandish statements with no basis of proof, but simply doing a google search would give you this information.

All th PC bull over rights do not matter when someone's life is at risk, just so gay people can feel happy about not being discriminated against

  • @tobler88 there are more positive (HIV/AIDS) straight men than gay men. Know your facts.

  • They don't let homosexuals give blood because they are more at risk from HIV than hetrosexuals. It would cost far too much to screen for HIV if they allowed homosexuals to give blood, so much so, they would have to make cuts elsewhere, afterall, the blood service is the NHS and although they recieve £162Bn in funding that still isn't enough to cover everything.

Before people start screaming homophobia they should do a little reading in the subject matter.

  • @samukaihaku ... except AIDS is transferred by vaginal sex too. There is just as much of a risk, whether the person is gay or straight. Before giving blood, you must fill in a form to say you have been tested for HIV and are negative. By not allowing homosexuals to give blood, they are essentially saying all gay people are liars. It's ridiculous that a gay man has to be abstinent for 10 years before giving blood and a straight man can donate only 1 year after sleeping with a prostitute.

  • Still don't understand why homosexual community is so outraged by this. Its quite simple. If a straight person had a deadly virus, would you want their blood, even though you know it may kill you? No. so why would anyone want someone elses blood from a homosexual that could kill them. the difference is, you don't have to have anal intercourse, you could stop for months and then give blood. But people who want to help with illnesses and cant have no choice. consider youself lucky.

  • @jokedejojo Actually, it's more about AIDS being primarily a scourge of the gay community.

  • lies, i think you will find there are one if not multiple countries in the world which allows gays to give blood!

  • You know full well the risk of spreading blood diseases is much higher for anal sex and HIV can stay undetected for 3 months. You could have given a unit and had it transfused in that time. No country in the world accepts gay donors, do you think it's some global conspiracy? Even in super-liberal places like Sweden?
