Yeah, they are difficult to tune. There are special chanters available for playing with bands though, and you can always cork off the drones. I'm in a Celtic rock band in the style of runrig and the bagpiper's been great.

I love the sound of bagpipes, but I found it so bloody annoying the way there's always that stupid drone which sounds terrible if you're no in the same key as it. Makes the bloody things impossible to play along with.
