@TheKathleg Oh wow! They are young. One of the boys on the front row looks like my younger son. So sad.

Cracking version well the best done right! I had the honour of performing this in Germany with Ron and Richard Granger. Ron was real keen for me to do it with the band I was in. I still am and am getting them primed to do it. It was process that killed my Granddad quite scary as Ron Reckoned it was about the that time he wrote the song.

I worked in a steel tube extrusion mill myself, for 15 years. I spent some of that time in the pickling dept, using hydroflouric and nitric acids and and lime and sodium hydroxide during the cleaning process. I sing this song, with a couple minor changes reflecting the processes at my former employer. I tell how I learned the song from So's Your Mom. Thank you to the Teesside Fettlers, and their fans who passed the song along.

Thank you for putting this outstanding, original vesion on youtube. For those who don't know, a fettler is a peson who removes the flashing from a casting, or a welded assembly, before it is plated.

Kathleg -- was your father Ron Angel, or was he a process man?

I've been trying to find the original version forever! Is there any chance you have any other of Ron Angel or the Teesside Fettlers' songs? (Esp Cleveland Steel?)
This is a really great find! Thank you soso much.

At last the original version is now available. some good copies are on You Tube but I dont think you can beat this version which is sung by Ron Angel who wrote it when he was actually a Chemical Worker at ICI Middlesbrough - this version has a "reality " to it which you can feel and after all that is what folk music is all about.
the photograph I found is great too :)..see the age of some of those lads?
