Noticed that everything is knocked over, destroyed and buried deep under dirt. They didn't have bombs like we do today that could easily destroy buildings, temples, houses that are built with massive stones. Something destructive had to have happened back then and the ppl wiped out to tell any accounts of what happened. Was there a destructive event like we will probably under go in oct, 2011 of this year?,

@tobybushby The obvious inspiration for Gladiator was a film called "The Fall of the Roman Empire" which had almost all the same major characters and finished with a gladiatorial battle between a general and a Roman Emperor. Check it out.

Anyone seen "Spartacus" with Kirk Douglas starring? I believe "Gladiator" has a fairly obvious inspiration, and it sure ain't the tomb of a "General" found years after the film was made....
Gutter "journalism"....

Wait. He's a general buried in a 15 m tomb. So how does that figure he was:
1) the Gladiator, or
2) the inspiration for the Gladiator "... starring Russel crowe"?
All I can say is that Russell Crowe's agent has pull!
