To look at an original Piper J-3 Cub, you'd have to say, "What's the big deal?" Tube and fabric construction and a cork for a gas gauge. Yet the Cub idea endures in the form of several LSA Cub clones. In this video, AVweb's Paul Bertorelli gets a flight demo in the Legend Cub and in CubCrafters' S2.

  • If the old Piper Cubs that are still flying today have lasted as long as they have, I see no reason why these new Cub Legends woudl not.

  • Why does the oil pressure gauge show no pressure while flying? That's not right... Awesome plane though! I love it! Thanks for the vid.

  • @tasev1 Just to list a few, I say: don't be intimidated by wheel landings; try not to pump the stick when coming in for a normal three point landing- which most people tend to do when they first start flying tail wheels; when landing always pull the stick fully back and hold it there until the airplane comes to a complete stop; and always be ready on the rudder peddles, or what some instructors say, keep your feet moving.

  • @7GolfAlpha I'm accustomed to flying 172's and I learned on a Diamond DA-20. My flying club actually has 1 old Piper Cub, and I am hoping to book an intro flight with it this summer. I certainly hope to get around to it. Any insight you can offer on my first attempt?

  • @PeetPeeet As a tail-wheel pilot myself I don't see non-tail-wheel pilots as cowards or bad pilots. What I do see is the misleading conclusions being made about tail-wheel aircraft. Flying tail-wheel aircraft is not hard, but its different, as opposed to tricycle gear aircraft. If you want to learn to fly a tail-wheel airplane, learn in an original cub; there really easy to fly.

  • @7GolfAlpha I should clarify; I'm scared of prop-strikes, and ground loops. Call me a coward or a bad pilot, but I prefer nosewheels, still technically a cub virgin though. Maybe I just need to log some time in one...

  • you have a circuit breaker popped over your left shoulder in the S2 Cub

  • @PeetPeeet You're not sad about that? Personally I would be devastated, if I was allergic.

  • I'd love to see a re-engineered tri-pacer like one of these new cubs. Am allergic to tailwheels.

  • I love the Sport Cub, much better than the overpriced Legend Cub.
