hi, I'm a Delphi programmer (developer), and I also appreciate the awesomeness of notepad.
Agree with you, it delivers what it promises, it does not had any update-pack since 95 and it does not hangs or crashes (never).
Very soon we will have an always-check-update piece of software running for every software on our machine, just like adobe-reader, java, firefox, all of them, but not for notepad!
-and you can still place a "powered by notepad" on php pages yet today-
