Garbo and Gilbert tribute - You Love Me (Aleksander Serov)

My tribute to one of te most beautiful and truly romantical couple of the silver screen - Greta Garbo and John Gilbert. They met on the set of "Flesh and the Devil" 1926 and instantly fell in love. Their romantical scenes were looking so real on screen, because they actually were real. Their next movie was called "Love" 1927, so that the promotional ads could say "Garbo and Gilbert in Love". "Woman of Affairs" 1928 was their third movie, last silent one. As far as I know they weren't together already, but their chemistry was still undeniable. Their last movie was "Queen Christina in 1933. Garbo wanted only Gilbert for the leading role, firing Laurence Olivier for that purpose. She wanted to help Jack's ruined career. It didn't help him much, but they created an unforgettable duo, so tragically romantic and convincing.

Awww thank you, your comment means a lot to me, because Golden Silents is a great forum for silent movie lovers, and it's a great honour for me to be feauted on it. I just finished reading a book about Jack Gilbert and my heart and soul hurt for his sad fate and I think there never was or ever be an actor as passionate as Jack and for me to this very day he is The Great Lover of all the times...

@irinagarbo I would totally agree with you on that. I think a big part of what made him that way was the way his mother treated him, or rather, neglected him, to pursue her career and her many lovers. She farmed him out to relatives and he was lonely. Acting fulfilled something within him that no other woman could.
