I wrote this song back in 1995. It was at a time when I was thinking about my youth and all the friends of my childhood that have gone away. It is funny that in our lives we will meet so many people at different stages of age. A few will remain with us until we die, but with most of our friends, we lose track of them and the times. The very fact that we grow up is the main reason why we drift apart from some I guess.
I think of my dad George, who in the last ten years, has lost most of all his childhood friends. My dad just turned 86.. All that we are left with in the end, is a few old pictures, as the memories start to fade!
Black Irish Band member Steve McArthur sang lead on my original song and also performed on the piano. Bass player, Rick Restivo, played the Flugelhorn solo i wrote. I always loved the sound of the Flugelhorn because at times it sounds so sad. When I hear it in the song, I think about me playing my trumpet alone in my bedroom when I was eight years old. My mom & dad bought me a second-hand horn and I played in the school band.
The Irish Harp was perfomed by Anne Roos. The harp gives the song a dream effect or a soft memory. At the very end of the song I liked the last harp cord. To me it sounds like the memory is now faded away. The song is on the bands 18th Cd album, "Sonora Farewell". It is the last song on the album. www.blackirish.com
