The Woodstock Music and Art Fair was a historic event held at Max Yasgur's 600 acre (2.4 km²; 240 ha) dairy farm in the rural town of Bethel, New York from August 15 to August 18, 1969. Bethel (Sullivan County) is 43 miles (69 km) southwest of the town of Woodstock, New York, which is in adjoining Ulster County.
To many, the festival exemplified the counterculture of the 1960s and the "hippie era." Thirty-two of the best-known musicians of the day appeared during the sometimes rainy weekend. Although attempts have been made over the years to recreate the festival, the original event has proven to be unique and legendary. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest moments in music history and was listed on Rolling Stone's 50 Moments That Changed the History of Rock and Roll.
The event was captured in a successful 1970 movie, Woodstock, and Joni Mitchell's song "Woodstock", which memorialized the event and became a major hit for Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

Someone once asked Hendrix who his favorite guitarists were. He had two: Eric Clapton and Stephen Stills. Personal friend of Stills; tried to hire him away from CSNY.
YELIW1 - I agree ... it's disheartening ... we've moved completely in the wrong direction - less free, less diversity in thought and actions; less arts - more politics, more prisoners and more "stupid-cop/stupid-cia/fbi/hsa " shows. I wonder what the cause is??? Perhaps it's the shift from the mechanical to the electronics age.
I think you could be thinking along the right lines, I have always thought that the digital concept is flawed. CDs are far to long, leading to poor quality filler tracks, films are not worth watching too many effects and not enough content. Were this is leading too it is hard to know, I do however feel that the powers that be should be taking a long hard look at the direction that their actions are taking society.

Billy Gibbons (zz top) was Hendrix's favorite guitarist.
