@seanrichspiv As a classical singer, I can tell you I went into music inspired hearing Ms Horne sing on Sesame street and thought it was the most beautiful sound I had ever heard. I never became a star like these world class folks, but singing continues to be my passion.

In case anyone is wondering, the music is the Fly Duet (Duo de la mouche) from Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld (Orphée aux Enfers).

@hereforbewbies Actually, kids do--by about 6. Kids aren't colorblind, and that's when achievement gaps start, which is why it's so important to have visible role models.

Black people are sincere, kind, and talented. Denyce represents this positive stereotype of the black. Watching this video clip, I wish to have a lot of Black friends who would fill my days with joyful melodies, liveliness, friendship, and sincerity. By the way, I am Asian.

Great voice:)
To the people mentioning Denyce Graves being black:
Little kids don't care about race — it's simply a non issue. The presentation is about the music, which is something everyone should be enchanted with.
I suppose it could very well have *something* to do with her being black, but I would wager, much more riskily, that they simply hired her for her prominent performances, talent and evidently, her ability to work well in a childrens' setting.
The point: music > race. By a lot.

I LOVE THIS! As a music educator, I am proud to see Sesame Street giving children life-long experiences like Opera and African American artist in a positive way. Kudos to this program!
