  • @beyergarret123 I'd doubt it. Gangs were consolidated and most went mobile in the 80s. There was a disastrous phase of outsourcing in the late 90s too. It will be inevitable that there would be more automation and reliance on minimal remedial work + fixing stuff during programmed maintenance (plus the spread of CWR/LWR and metal/concrete sleepers). I can't remember the last time I actually saw a track gang at work.

  • @madmax200769 yep, me too! not much fun in the winter on exposed embankments with the rain/snow blowin' sideways...... that was the late 70s, dont know if its still done the same now though.

  • Back-breaking work. Done it and had the blisters!
