For those of you who stress at plane flights. Landings could be stressful. I would always close my eyes and think I was flying the plane and for some reason, bumps and shakes as a pilot don't worry me as much as a helpless passenger at the merci of some unknown driving force. Same thing with other stressors of life, how one person interprets an "incident" can be totally different as anothers interpretation of the same happening. When we have adrenaline and epinephrine surging through our veins and we witness a scene, our understanding of what is happening is much different than if we were calm and secreating oxytocin or serotonin. Try watching this landing and following the music from sky to earth and picture yourself controling your breathing while seated looking out the window. It's easy and when you control your breathing, the heart rate will also fall into a slower cadence as will the blood pressure and respiratory rate. This is the relaxation response and when practiced on a daily basis, plane flights will be easy as well as the daily stressors of an 8 hour job or caring for a sick loved one. By controling the stress response, one takes control of the hormone response and decisions can be made in a totally different light as compared to when adrenaline is controling our behavior.
