The launch of the space shuttle Atlantis as viewed from Titusville, Florida about 11 miles away. This was STS-125 on a mission to repair the Hubble Space Telescope. Sound takes about 5 seconds to travel one mile so noise from the engines took approximately 55 seconds to reach the camera. This video was captured with the Sony HDSR11 camcorder set on a tripod with as wide a field of view as was possible. Viewing the launch in person was a great experience and the flame appears much more vibrant than it does in any video with a bright deep golden orange color to the naked eye. Video shot Monday, May 11, 2009.
I too was at possibly this same location and have pretty much the same footage you have. You're done a great job in capturing this. I will be posting my video of this event between now and the new year. I love Titusville, Fl. Please keep up the good works. The American Space Program need all of the support and gradtitude it can get if we are to remain # 1 in the world. BY PROMETHESUS 959

Great video, have seen many a launch myself including the old Apollo's :) - that announcer guy was just a little annoying would have been better to have actual shuttle launch commentary in the background :)
