This is an arranger's arrangement...I am familiar with Caravan, but how Ralph Burns got the ideas for this arrangement is beyond me...sounds almost as a work for Kenton with almost total brass...but he does not give you a headache, like Kenton sometimes does...there is a perfect balance of sound, rhythm, timbre, and tonality...I wish I had written this...

One more thing...look at the musicians Brookmeyer sounded himself with...all the top-notch players of the 1960's...that's a combination difficult to beat...great song, great arrangement, great players/solos and a great leader...absolute perfection...thanks fellas...thanks recording industry...thanks youtube

This is the greatest arrangement of Caravan I've ever heard...I can't find it on a CD either...I have the vinyl, too...Brookmeyer knew it too...it was the first cut on the album...He gave Ralph BURNs full credit...this is a half a century old but sounds as good as the day it was recorded...the world has changed a lot since 1961, but great music is timeless...the Sauter arrangement here is interesting, but Burn's takes first prize...I never tire of listening to it!!

It's on a Verve two-fer where the lead is Gary McFarland's version of the music to "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying." It's listed in Amazon, probably, with that first.
