We can't forget the awesome Packard Merlin!

i just had a insane idea...... quad turbo it with some 110 mm turbos...O.o

I love the sound of reciprocal engines too... The problem is vibrations. They vibrated the airframe apart so badly that metal fatigue was a problem. It was too expensive to continue after the jet came into economic viability. But there's NOTHING like old time THUMPERS to make a motor head feel good! (LOL)

its amazing how we can sit on youtube and watch a fan blade spin around when we couldnt give a sht about the fan blade on our own cars
-
@Hanglands hihi, you're right.
a full sized prop in this configuration with this engine, might produce up to 5 tons of static spin...quite much for a simple truck
-
An airplane should Always sound like that....goosebumps down my spine!! Great vid ty!!
-
The propeller mass is the flywheel. The blades are cut shorter for ground display.

29.000 Airfix flying points !
I wonder what are they testing using these engines to drive each propellers?

Hi. This isnt a test of any sort. Its just for display. A full sized prop on one of those little trucks might have disasterous consequences!

Would an airplane running a Merlin have dual propellers like that? that's fantastic! Someone should take the sound from that and pop it in FSX.

That dual-prop Merlin is actually a RR Griffon, and yes it was fitted to some spitfires, and also the Avro Shackleton.
