  • I remember when this tip was first on TV

  • Bo was coached by Bill Taylor, a tireless critic of bowling's adoption of the lighter plastic pins. You can google his articles, like "Warning: SSC is Bowling's Cancer." Very provocative stuff about score inflation.

  • The Pro pins weighed as much as the pins we used in our average bowling centers. Watch the telecasts from pre-1985. Some have pins as light as 3 pound 2 ounces. They produced lots of mixing strikes and some messengers. After that, the minimum weight was 3 pound 6 ounces. That's the weight of today's pro pins.
