A teenager died two days after being struck by a possible drunken driver.
On Saturday night, Christopher Brown, 17, was driving home from working at a sandwich shop. As he approached the intersection of 86th Street and State Avenue, a car smashed into him from behind.
Chris was pronounced dead on Monday and was taken off life support on Tuesday.
The teen was studying to be a machinist and was set to graduate high school this spring.
"No one ever thinks you'll bury your children -- you think they'll bury you," said Bobby Brown, Chris's father.
Brown's family is pleading for you to consider becoming an organ donor.
"When he got his driver's license when he was 16, he had marked to be an organ donor," mother Tonya Brown said.
"I'm very proud of him, especially for the donor thing," Bobby Brown told KMBC's Dan Weinbaum.
"It lifted a weight off my heart knowing that he was going to live on, and that the heart I was hearing beat artificially in his chest was going to be beating for someone else," Tonya Brown said.
The man accused of rear-ending Brown is Eric Snitz. He was charged with drunken driving, aggravated battery and criminal use of a weapon, for carrying an unlicensed concealed gun, police said.
The Wyandotte County prosecutor is considering whether to upgrade the charges now that Chris has died.
A fund has been set up to help the family with funeral expenses. Donations can be sent to Security Bank in Kansas City, Kan.
