Made with FL Studio and custom-ripped NES samples.

This one is for Neuro Man of Mega Man Time Tangent. I didn't look at anything other than his sprite, so it might not be all that fitting. I like the sound, though. :^)

  • @Kevvviiinnn If FL isn't designed for composing NES-style music, then why don't you just stick with Famitracker?

  • @MasterQuest1984 : Because I find compositional process a lot more fluid in FL, thanks to the extremely intuitive piano roll. It's a lot harder for me to come up with something good in a tracker. I like working in FL because it's very visual. I don't feel as confined creatively, and I always feel like I can come up with something nice just by tinkering around in the piano roll. Because the environment is much more comfortable, I'm also able to make music a lot faster.

  • @MasterQuest1984 : The fact you don't HAVE to limit yourself to NES sounds also means that I can do much more with the music if I ever wanted to. Plus, I actually prefer the mock-NES sound to the real thing, despite how blasphemous that may sound.

  • Question: is it worth paying for the FL NES plugin, as expensive as it is (I don't know if FL Studio itself is charged), when you can get Famitracker for free instead? I want to create some 8-bit tunes too, so I'd like to know what's the best choice.

  • @IshidaTheQuincy : (cont.) I'd even argue that it's harder to make authentic sounding NES music with FL since you have to go out of your way to make sure it stays within NES limitations.

  • @Kevvviiinnn

I see. I think I mixed something up then, because I heard from I-don't-remember-who that there was a rather expensive NES plugin for a music synthesizing program out there, and I was assuming it was FL Studio.

As for Famitracker, I've even managed to compose a couple tunes, but I'm still trying to figure out how to create all the cool effects and stuff.

Anyway, thank you very much for the explanation; it cleared up some doubts of mine. :)

  • @IshidaTheQuincy : There are NES plug-ins out there that work in FL, but there aren't any tailored specifically for the program. Plogue Chipsounds is a third-party VST plug-in, and it's probably what you're referring to. The way you worded it, I assumed you thought FL was some sort of NES sequencer. That's probably where the confusion is coming from.

if kevvviiinnn doesn't care about NES limitations then somebody else will remix it for him!

  • There's a list of effect commands listed in the Famitracker Wiki, and as for the visual thing, I have no idea how to help with that, other than putting in FL studio first and then transcribing it to famitracker.

    This sounds great, though. =P

  • I can see this as a theme for 1 of mah robot masters: staticman

  • Very convincing track, my friend.

  • @Kevvviiinnn I have a soundfont for NES stuff, does that count...? =S

  • @Kevvviiinnn

Not actually, I've even used FL Studio myself once or twice; but I really just thought there was a plugin for it specifically for NES sounds.
