This video demonstrates the procedure to synchronize a carburetor on a 1977 Honda CB550. It is really important, especially for bikes of this vintage, to synchronize your carbs at the beginning of every riding season or after any repair or adjustment to the carbs. This bike still needs some work to be road ready, but it has a lot of potential and is super cafe racer cool. If you are attempting to do this procedure yourself and have any questions before you start, feel free to let me know. That's the good thing about Youtube, FREE INFORMATION FOR ALL!!!!!

EDIT: Here are a few edits I would like to make to this video after watching it a couple of times.
1. Make sure your carb synch comes after everything else in a normal tune up. This includes Valve clearances, cam chain tension, spark plug gap/cleaning, point gap, ignition timing, air filter cleaning/replacement, and all the air bleed screw settings should be checked.
2. Engine speed for a carb synch should be around 1500rpms if possible.
3. The adjuster screw lockdown nuts should always be re-tightened after adjustment (I forgot to show it)

  • Max was that carb sync made when that bike came out? LOL That thing looks old school!. Just bustin your balls..Great video as always man!

  • @Jaladorm2000 Haha once they come out with the infra-red digital sonic thermal dialater model that is solar operated carb sync tool that connects to your i-phone, then Im all over it

  • how often do you have to synch your carbs? do the adjustment screws losen over time?

  • @skiraf I do it every time I work on carbs. If you have a bike you ride regularly which requires minimal maintenance, its a good idea to incorporate a sync into your yearly maintenance interval. About as often as you change your tires should be fine.

  • WHY is the idle so high?

  • @upfrontman No working tach on this bike at this time. I realize that it sounds in the video like it was racing but engine speed was estimated to be about 1500-2500. Ideal engine speed to sync a set of carbs is a fast idle, about 1000-1500.

  • very awesome and informative vid thank you!!

  • Idle should be about 1100 -1200 RPM while syncing the carbs.

  • @justin76bmw will it work 2@ a time? i dropped my gas tank and snapped a brass tube thing.

  • @justin76bmw Yep the adjustment screws may be a little different, as well as the location of the ports to connect the brass rods, but the concept is the same and the same tool is used
