Coyotes and Foxes of Prince Edward Island, p4/4

The PEI Model Forest Network Partnership is proud to present "Coyotes and Foxes of Prince Edward Island", featuring presentation and interview footage of Randy Dibblee - wildlife biologist with PEI's Division of Forests, Fish, and Wildlife - and Jackie Waddell - Executive Director of the Island Nature Trust.

The goal of this presentation is to educate the public on various facts regarding coyotes and foxes on PEI, and dispel public fear and myths.

The presentation examines how foxes have habituated in PEI, how coyotes have habituated in Cape Breton, and how current coyote management techniques in PEI all but guarantee the prevention of habituation of coyotes. A core message delivered is that harassment of coyotes through hunting and trapping prevents habituation and problems with humans.

The presentation also addresses how to react to a coyote encounter, how foxes are a benefit to Island farmers, coyote predation prevention, as well as nuisance animal removal.
