On a recent trip to Chicago, I was hoping to find some great live jazz and was fortunate enough to stumble upon, "Jazz Showcase" near my hotel, the second oldest jazz club in the country. Dimly lit. Men in hats. Old school vibe & history...my kind of joint. :)

On the evening that I went, I was treated to the Ryan Cohan Quartet, a group of exceptionally talented jazz musicians who riffed everything from original material, to Thelonious Monk, Contrane, Dizzy Gillespie & Benny Goodman. I stayed for both sets and had an incredible evening, even meeting the group afterwards.

This is a quick clip of a homage to Thelonious Monk (one of my favorites), called, "Monk'n Around", an original composition. Unfortunately the mic on my cell phone DOES NOT DO JUSTICE to the fantastic mixture of bass, drums, piano and sax...only hearing it for yourself could do that!
