Now that I've gotten the Bellbridge missions done, here are some of the miscellaneous missions in the game. A large portion of the game consists of these nonessential missions, and while they're clearly filler, many of them are quite fun anyway.
Some of my favorites among them are the "Link Challenges." It's where this little creature called an Octopaw appears and generates rings for NiGHTS to fly through. Octopaw is a harmless creature and rather shy, but he seems to enjoy leading NiGHTS around.
The goal in Link Challenges is to fly through as many rings and Blue Chips as possible without going for more than 1 second between them. That is, you must get as high a combo as possible. Each individual Link Challenge specifies the minimum combo in order to pass (in this case, it's 30), though in order to get an A-rank, you must get a combo of 100 or more. As for me, as I enjoy these Link Challenges so much, I've decided to go for a combo of 200 or more.
You're given plenty of breathing room. See those black circles at the bottom? Those are your chances. You can fudge up a combo, and it'll move to the next black circle. Once you mess up five times, the mission ends, and your score is your highest combo of those five. The stage itself is endless. It loops.
Pure Valley's Link Challenge, of course, is to introduce you to the Link Challenge system. It's very easy and forgiving, with few obstacles, none of which are Octopaw-created. (I'll show you when I upload the next Link Challenge.)
I wonder how high the link counter goes before it stops.

I don't know. My guess is 999 and that it triggers a song not heard anywhere else in the game.
There's this mysterious song on the soundtrack called "Located Link" that no one seems able to unlock in the game itself.
