Renton does seem to want to be clean. He's had enough. But he also knows why he used and what kind of world awaits him in sobriety. He has mixed feelings about it like many in sobriety do.

As a junkie, I find this movie just like my life. Literally. I've seen lots of fucked up sh/t. Stole from stores. And my take on the ending is that everyone has appoint where they want to quitt in their heart, but the physical and mental problems take you right back. But I think the ending is cool because you are rooting for him but you don't know if he is going to make it...once again this movie is accurate as f^ck

I really like this film but after viewing it several times it is obvious that the whole junkie lifestyle is what Renton truly desires. It would only be a matter of time before he got back into drugs again.
