  • As one of the writers of this song, I was thrilled to see this video. I've always been very proud of Johns version of the song and gratified that it did so well in many parts of the world. It actually was recorded in the US, but by Anthony Newley, not quite a good fit! John is a great artist. I've loved every recording he's done of my songs. Meeting him in LA was a special moment so

many years ago. Thanks for bringing the song to life on youtube.

    Gloria Sklerov

  • As the writer of this song, I can say that it was written on request for another artist whose deal was dropped. They were looking for an "urban story song." Driving home from the meeting, I passed a motel called "Hollywood Eight" and the story of the song started forming in my mind. We decided to change the name to "Hollywood Seven" because it 'sang' better. The song was sent out around the world and Jon recorded it. I've always been thrilled with the record and his performance.

  • A classic song with a story to tell that is still so relevant in today's world. A refreshing change compared to the plastic computerised mumbo jumbo lyrics contained in so much of todays music.

  • This song gives me goosebumps ... Pure perfection ♥

  • Never get sick of this number, love it!

  • Thankyou to Gloria Sklerov for writing this great song ,thankyou to Jon English for singing it so well.I totally love it.

  • seen Jon in a Perth pub eons ago was hooked then and there on his music

  • I love Jon English. I have never seen him do anything where words can describe how talented he is. And this song is definately no exception. Definately my favourite song of all time.

  • .

    hi

  • @Musiconcepts, thank you Gloria, for writing a song that allowed John to show us all his fantastic talent, this is version of the song I grew up with and remember, to me this is his song.

  • @Musiconcepts He did you a good service,no one better at the time could sing it beter.

  • Awesome song. Gloria Sklerov is a talented writer and wrote "He Did With Me" for Vicki Lawrence (who also recorded this song) and "Silver Wings & Golden Rings" and "He'll Never Know" for Cher. Very powerful vocal and over the top arrangement, probably didn't make it in the states because it doesn't come on like gangbusters in the beginning and it's way too long.
