Great idea.
I also like using the covers from 50-pack re-writeable DVDs or CDs spindles. They measure 5" across by about 3 1/2" high and work great as a "yarn bowl" for my ball.
I just plop a couple of those on the floor where I'm working, or even use them in a bag, to keep the balls and yarn tidy and separate while I'm working.

Great idea. Maybe you could also use a hole punch to make a hole in the bag just below the zip lock, if you want to seal the ball in and poke the end of the yarn through the hole. Might be less drag than from the edges of the zip lock thing for delicate yarns.
I use a stand up shopper as a knitting bag, and let my yarn run silly inside there rather than let it run all over the floor. Keeps it cleaner too, specially for people with pets.

Hi Judy, I have been doing this when working with different colours and it works really well. I also have another idea which is: do you know the container of Vanish Oxi Action? It looks like it's made in heaven to contain a ball of wool....you'd have to put a hole in the lid but I think it just might work well to keep yarn separated....no? wouldnt work too well with a million colours (too many containers around) but for a few.............? just did your flower. great. thanks. kathy
