A famous witty song by my beloved Neidhart... I think there is even no need to put its lyrics here. But if there will be a request for it, I´ll be pleased to do so :-)

  • is there any translation of this? can you do it? i would be very pleased.

  • @Azanah 3. Clear out the stools and the chairs! Have the tables carried outside! Today we´ll dance until we´re exhausted. Open up the room, so that it will cool off and so that the breeze will glow gently through the girls´ bodices. When the leaders finish their song you are all invited to dance again, a courtly dance to the fiddles.
  • @Azanah 4. Goßbrecht, Willebold, Gumbrecht, and Eppe, Willebrecht, the farmhand, Werenbold, and the young Tuße too, Megenbold the farmer´s son, and Reppe, Irenwart, Brochselhard; the wild Ruße dances after them: he is a very foolish fellow from Holling who goes courting at all times of the year (watch out!) but the girls still think he´s bad news.
  • @Azanah 5. Have you ever seen such a bold peasant? God knows, he is allways the first in the round dance. His sword belt is two hands´ wide, and he thinks he´s quite something in hie new doublet: it´s put together from twenty-four small pieces of cloth, and the arms reach down to his hands. That´s just the sort of clothing you would expect to find on the back of a vain person.
  • @Azanah 6. His entire getup is peasantlike. I´ve been told he has his eye on Engelbold´s daughter Eve, but I ber he´ll get nowhere. She is a woman who deserts the love of a count. That´s why I hope he´ll listen to good advice, offered in secret, and go somewhere else with his flirting. He could earn himself a black eye that would last as long as it takes to get to Mainz.
  • @Azanah 7. His doublet is so nicely cut nor is his singing so clear that he couldn´t leave her alone. This summer he gobbled her up like bread. I turned red with embarrassement whenever they sat next to one another. If she becomes mine, she whon I serve so eagerly, I´ll give her the choise of the best things: Reuntal /Valey of Sorrow/ will be hers alone: that is my great fortress.

That's a beautiful translation! Thank You so much! Now the whole song became prettier :)

  • @Azanah 2. Listen! I hear dancing in that room. Get moving, young men! There´s large pack of village women in there. You could see them dancing the Ridewanz to two fiddles. When they stopped (Which delighted the eager fellows), then singers took turns leading the dance. The noise poured out throught the windows. Adelhalm will only dance if he has a young girl on each arm.
  • @Azanah 1. "Sing forth, golden cock, and I´ll give you grain." That´s what the woman said whose favor I hope to win by my singing, and her words made me glad: fools become happy whenever they are promised something good. If it came true, then my spirits would soar higher than anyone´s ever have. Can she dispel my sorrow with her high spirits? My sad situation is lamentable indeed.
  • okay! no problem.

    I will be looking forward!

  • Sure there is, I allready promised it to Phastolph. I have recently been very busy and as you see, it takes some time to copy it, so - be patient, please :-)
