  • The starter is for new roleplayers not experienced ones. If you have played already then yes the core books are what you would want to buy.

  • I bet a lot of it is enthusiasm. Good luck with the custom system - they are a lot of fun. I don't believe that pathfinder is planning on more box sets. I think this set is an attempt to nab new players and get them moving quickly.

  • @Grumium101 I think the best way of going about it is downloading swords and wizardry for free. :)

  • @Antiks72 This is for people who are just beginning the game. It has basic rules as to not overwhelm someone that wants to learn how to play. It may be a waste of money if you all ready have played rpg's before, but to someone who has not its a very good value in my opinion. I would much rather have this starting out then sift through an almost 600 page book. It reminds me of the original basic D&D red boxed set in alot of ways. I have never played 3,0 rules only earlier editions.

  • Why buy the starter set when you could just buy the core rule books? Seems like a waste of money.

  • I am happy for people new to the DnD and Pathfinder... They have such a great starter sets. In the future they will have a great nostalgia remembering this inboxing.

  • I wonder how much of my enthusiasm for this boxed set is nostalgia for the old Dungeons and Dragons boxed sets. Both D&D and Pathfinder have changed the formula quite a bit since the old game, so it's not that I'm reliving the past through it. It's quite an attractive set, though, so maybe that's part of it. I'm planning on building a custom system on the stripped-down rules just to see how it plays.

Doesn't look like they'll be making a sequel boxed set to this, given their talk lately.
