u2 used the 4 chords, linkin park used a wider variety of chords. but the arrangement is similar enough to be called a sound-alike, the kind of thing that would be created if you were intentionally making a sound-alike of a song.
-
Yeah I wasnt defining this. yes its similiar but if you have the ear you hear the differences. You said U2 used the same infamous chords. Thats what I was pointing out.
-
it's not the chords that are the same, it's the arrangement.
-
@neomp5 Songs are more than just music. The concept of a song combines melody, rhythm and lyrics. Stucture and tune. Yeah the chords might be the same but it doesnt define that its the same song. Music hasto be written for the song. not always just a cool guitar solo.

"waiting for the end" may be the finest-contructed four chords song ever. but that's like saying it's the finest-contructed particle-board death-trap fire-hazard suburban house ever. it may be slapped-together better than the others, but that doesn't mean anything.
linkin park are too talented to use cliches and formulas that were created for people who have no talent.

Well, I think waiting for the end has pretty much a lot of other instrumental things going on except those 4 infamous four chords. And too lazy? I don't think so. Those are 2 songs out of 80.
-
that doesn't make the song good.
"with or without you" used the infamous four chords (as did "waiting for the end", sadly). using those chords is a copout, when somebody's too lazy to actually write some music. it deserves no respect.

Don't hate on it, it's still an awesome song. Linkin Park and U2 are THE biggest charity bands ever so I love them both.
-
yes, they're in different keys, and the u2 song uses the infamous 4 chords, whereas the linkin park one, as far as i can tell, only uses them during the lyrics "the shadow of the day will embrace the world in grey"
but the instrumentation is too similar to be less than deliberate homage
-
I don't really think that these songs are so identical, they are different in many ways
awesome !
